Periodontal Diseases and Surgeries

The branch of dentistry that deals with gum diseases and surgeries is called peridontology. Dentists specialised in periodontology are called periodontists or periodontologists. Periodontologists are specialised dentists who have completed at least 3 years of specialised training on gums and tissues surrounding the tooth after completing 5 years of dentistry education.
Healthy gums are slightly rough like orange peel, the border with the tooth is in a smooth line and has a pink coloured appearance. Healthy gums do not bleed when brushing or eating.
Periodontal diseases start with gingivitis. So, gingivitis is the early stage of periodontal disease. In this period, the gums are bleeding, red and enlarged in volume. It may not cause much discomfort in the early period. If left untreated, the disease may progress to periodontitis and cause irreversible damage to the alveolar bone supporting the gums and teeth.
Periodontitis is a more advanced stage of periodontal disease. The alveolar bone is damaged along with the tissues supporting the teeth. The presence of a "periodontal pocket" between the teeth and gums facilitates the localisation of the infection and the progression of the disease. As the disease progresses, the teeth begin to wobble and may even be extracted.

Symptoms of Periodontal Diseases

• Haemorrhage,
• Swelling and redness of the gums,
• Gingival recession and sensitivity on exposed root surfaces,
• Black areas on the gingival margins or between the teeth due to calculus,
• Inflammation between the tooth and gum,
• Teeth wobbling, elongation, displacement of teeth,
• Bad smell and taste in the mouth.

Gum Aesthetics

There are many factors affecting smile aesthetics. One of these factors is gingival aesthetics, also known as pink aesthetics. The treatment of all kinds of gum problems that may disrupt smile aesthetics such as excessive gum appearance during the smile (gummy smile), irregular gum levels, etc. also falls within the field of periodontology./div>
In Denturla, all treatments related to gums and tooth surrounding tissues are carried out by peridontologists, who are specialised physicians, accompanied by up-to-date technological devices.
